What Does a TSH Test Measure?
The TSH test measures thyroid-stimulating hormone produced by your pituitary gland. It is the most sensitive marker for detecting thyroid disorders — both hypothyroidism (underactive) and hyperthyroidism (overactive). TSH acts as your body's thermostat for thyroid function: when thyroid hormones are low, TSH rises to stimulate production; when thyroid hormones are high, TSH drops.
How the Test Works
The TSH test is performed via a standard blood draw at any Quest Diagnostics location. Your sample is sent to a CLIA-certified lab for analysis. Results are typically available within 1-2 business days in your JustLabs account.
