Hepatic Function Panel (Liver Test)

Liver Panel

A comprehensive 7-biomarker panel that evaluates liver health by measuring enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin levels.

The Hepatic Function Panel (also called Liver Function Tests or LFTs) provides a comprehensive assessment of your liver's health and function. The liver performs over 500 vital functions including filtering blood, producing bile, processing nutrients, and metabolizing medications.

This panel measures seven key biomarkers that together paint a complete picture of liver function. The enzymes ALT and AST indicate liver cell damage, while ALP can signal bile duct issues. Bilirubin levels show how well your liver processes waste, and albumin reflects your liver's protein-producing capability.

Regular liver testing is important because liver disease often develops silently without symptoms until significant damage has occurred. Early detection through routine testing allows for intervention before irreversible damage occurs.

What This Test Measures

This panel measures 7 biomarkers: ALT (alanine aminotransferase) and AST (aspartate aminotransferase) are liver enzymes released when cells are damaged. Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) indicates bile duct function. Total and Direct Bilirubin measure waste processing. Total Protein and Albumin assess synthetic liver function.

Who Should Consider This Test

Anyone taking medications metabolized by the liver (statins, acetaminophen, etc.), people who consume alcohol regularly, those with risk factors for hepatitis, individuals with unexplained fatigue or digestive issues, and anyone wanting a baseline liver health assessment.

When to Get Tested

No fasting required. Can be tested any time of day. Avoid heavy alcohol consumption 24 hours before testing for most accurate results.

Understanding Your Results

Normal ranges: ALT 7-56 U/L, AST 10-40 U/L, ALP 44-147 U/L, Total Bilirubin 0.1-1.2 mg/dL, Albumin 3.4-5.4 g/dL. Elevated liver enzymes may indicate inflammation or damage. Low albumin can suggest chronic liver disease. Results should be interpreted together for the complete picture.

What to Expect

After placing your order, you'll receive an email from Rupa Health (our lab order partner) within 24 business hours to sign a consent form and schedule your blood draw at a Quest Diagnostics location.

The blood draw typically takes just a few minutes. Results are usually available within 1 business days and will appear in your secure Justlabs dashboard.

Our results include reference ranges and easy-to-understand indicators showing whether your values are within normal limits.
